Blue Devils Win Season Opener!
The Burlington Blue Devils opened the 2009 regular season with a huge win over a powerful Milwaukee Marauder team. The game was far from perfect with the Blue Devils racking up over 150 yards in penalties mainly on offense. Burlington struck first when Milwaukee's QB Shannon King was sacked in the end zone by Burlington's Henry Johnson after a botched snap awarding the Blue Devils a safety and 2 points. After multiple Turnovers and mistakes by both teams the half time score was the Blue Devils 2 Marauders 0. Both teams opened up the second half with the necessary adjustments to move the ball. Burlington scored in the opening drive of the second half with an 65 yard drive with QB Brent Ferdinand hooking up with WRY Kevin Barrett on a 25 yard strike which gave the Blue Devils their first TD of the 09 regular season. The Point after was good by kicker Jordan Brown maintaining Burlington's lead 9-0. Milwaukee Scored next on a short run failing to convert the 2 point conversion making the score 9 - 6 Burlington. Half way through the forth quarter the Blue Devils scored their final TD of the game on a 18 yard pass from Ferdinand to Barrett. The 2 point conversion was ruled out of bounds with Burlington maintaining the lead 15 - 6. Late in the forth quarter with the game clock counting down the Blue Devils went with a prevent package to burn some time off the clock. The concept worked while the Marauders used their final timeout before they scored the last points of the night. The 2 pt conversion was good making the final score Blue Devils 15 Marauders 14. Next week the Blue Devils are on the road again facing the Milwaukee Venom who are coming off a huge win last week against the Monarchs. The game is at the Milwaukee Sports Complex off Ryan Road. Kick off is at 7pm.
